I am a registered republican and I want us to change

So I fell asleep, then woke up to these election results that were so, so wonderful:

Mr. "you can't get pregnant if it's legitimate rape" Todd Akin lost
Mr. "pregnancy through rape is God's will" Richard Mourdock lost
Mr. "there's no such thing as life-jeopardizing pregnancy" Joe Walsh lost

You know what I want to say friends? I was raised in Kansas, as a republican. I thought they were a logical party for small government and rational thinking. But in recent years they've been so anti-woman and anti-science it's been really hard for me to find any common ground, in fact I spend most of every election cycle just wincing at the awful things their leaders say (and write into their platform!)

Wake up, republicans. Take this as a sign, show some reason again, do something to make yourself legitimate for the future. Don't just be the party that wants to legislate us back 50 years. There are plenty of countries in the world where all abortion, adultery, and homosexuality are illegal and the government is run by the religious right... these countries are not our friends!

To stay relevant we're going to have to listen and think critically, drop the conspiracy theories and talk about what the country really needs. I think it can happen. I think this election will help.
