baby update

Josie's turning seven months this weekend, so we figured we'd start her driving!

She actually got a HUGE kick out of this. Really gets me wishing we could throw her the keys so she could get her own diapers and stuff. I mean yeah she's only two feet tall so it's hard to reach the pedals, but could she really be much worse than the average Kansas driver?

"Every two weeks, you have a different baby"... that's something I read in some development guide, explaining that if you try something and your baby doesn't like it you should keep trying every month or so. This applies to food, swings, toys, books, etc. I totally see it with Jo. In fact this week, I feel like she's a totally different baby than she was last weekend.

Two big things: first, she crawls for real now! I mean her legs and arms aren't perfectly in synch but she alternates hands, alternates knees, gets places quickly. I'd post a video of it but really, it's just your basic crawling. Sadly I noticed it's being combined with improved dexterity, she can pick up smaller and smaller things now, like threads and scraps of tissue. And it all goes into her mouth. Ewe.

Second, I've noticed an obvious difference in how she plays with her toys. I remember when she was learning to grab things I said I felt like I was watching a perpetual arcade claw game... stuff gets batted around, dropped, missed, etc. Overall success rate was pretty low. Then she got good at grabbing things and putting them in her mouth. Now she grabs things and seems to come up with plans. She's very deliberate... pick up a block, put it down someplace else. Or picks it up and pats it with the other hand. She bangs toys together now, then puts one down and picks up another one and bangs those together. This all just happened in the last few days.

I'm really excited about Josie being a toddler. I'm happy that soon I'll have a kid who discovers things, who has likes and dislikes, a more and more distinct personality. 2011 is going to be really fun for us.

toddlerhood is awesome. Two has been a blast. It just gets more and more fun...

(I suspect this might change when she becomes a Teenager)

Adorable pic! Looks like she's serious about where she's going. LOL! And congrats to her for crawling. Go Josie!

I love the toddler age, personally. However, I've learned that my media collection now has to start on the third shelf, or I get to spend the afternoon picking DVDs up off the floor.

yeah, we fenced ours in. I feel bad about it but Josie was just drawn like a magnet to the entertainment center, and all the electrical cords around there... no more free-range baby.

Fab pic!
Sounds like blocks would be about perfect for her now - get her to stack about three of them, then knock them over. Best game ever!

she does love it :) her grandma got her some stacky cups for christmas too that have been fun. she'll crawl over just to knock those down.

marc says she's bent on destruction these days, he calls her "godzilla".

Tell me about it. All through Christmas, Norah was finding tiny scraps of wrapping paper and magic tape, which would vanish into her mouth. At some point I'd notice her making chewing motions and would pry her mouth open; voila! Occasionally I didn't notice anything was in there until she'd choke and spit it out herself. I'm pretty sure that there are times *hours* go by with something inappropriate in there.
