If you play basketball you have to go to the olympics, play basketball, and maybe get a medal. There's not another chance to win another medal the next day by holding your arms a different way or playing backwards. You've proven that you can play basketball. go you.
there are 34 SWIMMING EVENTS. not including diving or water polo or anything like that, nope, just going across the pool.
yeah, my own sport, track and field, has 47. but they're very different. you're not going to read about one guy winning the marathon, shot put, 110m hurdles and triple jump. our awesome Carl Lewis won lots of medals but he also went to the olympics four times. you pick up a couple here and there.
personally, I think that the fact that there are so many women who win both the 100m dash and the 100m women's hurdles is evidence that they need to raise the hurdles. this could be a whole other entry for me, but men's hurdles go up between high school and college, and are actually a challenge. the women's hurdles stay ladylike, I guess, so we don't hurt ourselves? but it's a sham, total sprint race and every real track fan knows it. different events should be just that... different. If you work hard at one, you shouldn't be able to automatically translate all that over to the next thing.
anyway wtf, I don't think Michael Phelps is all that cool. I said it. eh.
