car talk

God I hate car salesmen.

I went to the dealership to inquire about buying a new car. First, the guy showed me nothing but used cars. I know that's how they make money so I humored him by looking around... told him I'd like to sit in a mustang (freaking small! just like I remembered!) and looked at some other stuff.

In one of the cars, I mentioned something about the mp3 player being nice and he's like, "Oh yeah, mp3 players are a MUST HAVE in any car you're buying today. You can put 300 songs on one CD... most computers come with CD burners and you can download the songs right of the internet!"

dude. I'm 25. oh, and I DON'T LIVE IN A CAVE. I know what an mp3 player is.

Then (this is great) the next car doesn't have an mp3 player, so I'm like, "Oh, this one doesn't have the mp3 player." His response?

"We can make you such a great deal on this car you won't even miss that mp3 thing."

I thought it was a MUST HAVE?

You just want to shake them and say, "Go into NORMAL PERSON mode, you've got to have it, otherwise everyone would hate you and you would have killed yourself by now because you have no friends!" But I didn't say that.

Instead, I left the dealership because I had a special date with a coworker to learn to drive a car with a manual transmission. That's right, our hero has not, in ten years of driving, ever learned to drive a stick. how can this be? well it's no more, because in only three hours I basically learned it well enough to be out on open roads, and no one died, and his car still runs. I think. I offered to buy him a tank of gas and he's like, "No, really, that's okay. I'll just send you the bill when I overhaul the engine..."

I'm not smooth but I've proven to myself I can do it, and that's what's important, I think.

go me.

I can't order a new car right now anyway, as I've learned at a couple places, this is a CRAP time to go car shopping. Oh, sure, you see all the deals out on TV, but most of the dealerships in town are sold out of 2005 model cars that the great sales apply to. And if that's not lame enough, I can't get my hands on a 2006 for another 6-8 weeks. So I've got time to test drive stuff, and get my existing car in good working condition for resale. party on.
