countdown to the election

I was talking to the guy who sits next to me at work about politics and found out he doesn't even know what his district is for local elections. Lucky for him, I've been keeping all the old Local & State sections of the Eagle that have candidate profiles, so I pulled out the last couple and found one with a map that kinda looked like his area, and I was like, "Here, are these the streets you live in between?" And they were! So I turned to the candidate profile and there were his two guys running for Kansas House of Representatives. I gave him the profile and he read through it and decided to vote for the republican guy, because he thought that building a casino would not be so good for the economy, and my co-worker agreed, and he was also against raising taxes for schools.

His candidates consisted of a seasoned republican incumbent running against a democratic challenger who wasn't terribly strong on any issue, so the election isn't really going to be a close one decided by his vote by any stretch of the imagination, but I didn't tell him that. The important thing is that I personally have created an educated voter! I'm so proud! This is someone who was just going to show up to vote in the presidential election and now he'll be able to punch a few more buttons with confidence because of me. I feel all warm and squishy inside.

he's still voting for Kerry though. I haven't been able to swing a single badnarik voter yet.
