I got home to find my little parakeet, agamemnon, with this little area of bloody feathers by her neck. she looked awful. her and naboo do nothing but fight all day, I don't know what to do about it. even when I let them out, they chase one another to pick fights. I don't think they've ever hurt each other but it still scares me. so I snached aggy and washed her off, and it turns out it was just a tiny little scratch, but it's still scary to see your bird bleeding.

aggy isn't a big fan of being forcibly washed off (go figure) so she struggled and squawked and generally freaked out and tried to kinda nibble my fingers, but she didn't bite me at all. I know she can bite, she does it frequently (usually to other people, but that's beside the point). but she knew I was helping her. good little bird.

in other news, i'm obsessed with the olympics.

agamemnon? did you make that up? it sounds hauntingly familiar to me for some reason.

*barges in*
Agamemnon is a figure from Greek mythology. He was the king of Myceneae and was murdered by his wife Clytemnestra on his return from the Trojan war. (It was in revenge for his killing of their daughter Iphigenia in order to get a good wind to sail to Troy. His son Orestes then killed Clytemnestra in revenge for his death. Lovely family really. *g*) He was brother of Menelaus and so helped him out when he went to Troy in pursuit of Helen.

Ahem. Sorry, Classics geek. Couldn't help it. :)

she was born in the bottom of our bird aquarium when I was in high school which was very surprising, because our birds had laid eggs before but none had hatched. she wasn't in good shape, the vet told us she'd die, so she went without a name for almost a week and then I figured if she made it this long, she's got a chance, but it's going to be a fight. We were reading homer (doh!) in my high school english class, so I figured, "If my bird's going to live, it needs a tough ruthless warrior name!"

hence, agamemnon. and it worked, the bird didn't die, in fact that was almost ten years ago!

you're part of a small percentage of the population who didn't hear the name just react with a, "huh?!" it's fun to spring on people.

Hey, I recognized it as a Greek name. I just wasn't sure of the role he played in the Trojan war. But I did recognize it.

...didn't he show up in Troy? (I never saw the movie)

ooh, troy was good.

agamemnon showed up but he was a total asshat. he was this old beaurucrat, they made no hint of an interesting past.

Awww...that's a sweet story. And it's a very cool name. :)

I *love* that you called your parakeet Agamemnon. Hee. If I ever get pets, they're all getting Classical names. :)

Can't seem to get into the Olympics, which is rather annoying with everyone going insane over them. I love that they're in Greece, but I'm not such a big sports fan. Maybe it's being British and having to watch your athlete/team etc lose all the time! (I think we've actually been doing okay though.)

i love the olympics. i'm soooo cheering for the iraqi soccer team!

um, maybe you could find some little spiked collars for your birds? that way all of the other parakeets will think they're tough and leave them alone? ;)
