sleep, advice site

I am sleepy. Just realized today how sleepy... I slept like 11 hours Saturday night, then went to bed again at 10 or so on Sunday and woke up with my alarm at 6:30. This is coming from a girl who doesn't go to bed until like 11:30. Maybe it's catching up to me?

Either way I still feel just worn down and I'm not sure why.

Advicenators is doing well. I log in almost every day to see how many new members we've had in the past 24 hours. It sunk to zero a few weeks ago, then wavered between 1-3, not good. Then this week we're back up to 6-10. Very cool. I have this constant fear that it's going to fail, because I made it in the fall, and historically sites that I make in the fall get no visitors. This might break my streak.

Also, not everyone is arriving at it from spacefem - they're hearing about it from friends or finding it on google or whatever, which is great. A couple commercial sites launched right when I opened advicenators (funny coincidence), with advertising budgets and everything, and I was like, "well crap, all that work for nothing."

Technically I only made advicenators to automate my own advice column, so it shouldn't bug me if it fails. But it'd be nice if it did well, too.

It might snow tomorrow. *PLEASE* let it snow! Everyone on my friends list has been talking about snow they're getting and I've been totally let down by it, it's winter, damnit, I want some snow!

*shooshes snow your way* You can have all mine! I don't want it! (Not like we have any right now, but when it comes, I still don't want it ;-) )

We will not get snow until January if at all, and then it will be slush.

No. Wichita is quite simply not allowed to get any snow because that will mean snow in Manhattan and quite possibly OP as well. I hate snow. My dislike of snow is something that borders on the insane. I'm a bigot against snow. Probably the only thing I hate equally are hobbits and I think we all know how I feel about them.

So no. Snow is bad. Cold weather is bad. Winter on the whole is a terrible, terrible thing. The temperature should never, ever be allowed to move below 70 for any reason whatsoever.

I'm not sure I'd call what we got actually snow.
It's white and it's cold, but it's sparse.

You can have the three feet that we got here. I'll send it to you in the mail.

I want it to snow too! It's not fair; my friend has been posting pictures of the snow and they make me want to cry. I hate living in South California! It never ever ever snows!

We've got a TON of snow here in Hokkaido (just in the past week, too!) It's ALL yours, love. Let me know where to send it.

As for Advicenators... I hope it goes well. Personally, I quit going because the layout just seems cumbersome and confusing to my little brain :(

really? is it because I kept changing it every three days, or because it just wasn't organized? tips, please! I must know the answers! it's not singing to me, never has, I just couldn't ever put my finger on why.

yeah, i want some snow too. i thought they were saying it was going to snow a few times, but no dice. supposed to snow yesterday, wasn't it? eh. anyway you're not alone in hoping for a little snow. it's cold enough anyway :/

Our storm's heading east and moving out by morning, but I doubt it will will pack much of a punch by the time it gets to that end of Kansas...

As for advicenators, I just wish it would get more serious questions. It is mostly 13 year olds whining about their crushes. It takes all I've got not to constantly reply with "shut up and do your homework, there's more important things to worry about at this stage in your life!" Plus I've been seriously considering becoming the designated spelling and grammar nazi...

welcome to my world, those are the questions I was getting every day, hense the website. someone can share my pain ;)

hell, sign up for an account as grammer_nazi and have a great time, you'd have plenty to do.

The good news is you can set a few categories you're interested in, and have the site filter for you... it might be nice if Advicenators defaulted to a favourite-category view for known users, but I suppose I could just rewire my brain to click on the appropriate link instead of the general browse questions link. So long as young teenagers don't get any ideas about posting crush questions in "cooking" or "internet and web design", I can safely answer more interesting stuff...

The spelling, punctuation and grammar situation is impressively illegible in some cases, but aside from chewing them out (anyone who wants to chew out the kid cutting themself for not capitalizing would definitely qualify as a "grammar nazi"), what's to do? A mandatory preview that yells at them for "u" or the even more distressing "ur" and demands capital letters?

I live in dallas area, no snow. Not even ice, just freaking cold. *sigh*

Montreal has a nice thick layer of snow from the weekend... if we could share it with Kansas I'm sure we would!

Visiting Advicenators is a bit daunting now, it used to be there would be times I'd arrive after a day and not see any new questions, now we're talking 2+ screens of new stuff. Thanks for designing with categories, it lowers the intimidation factor! Any stats on whether the number of official columnists is keeping up with the question volume?

Looks like you're #3 on Google. If people could only misspell decently.....
