did lots of thinking today, particularly on madamealexis's comment on last night's entry about my future. it was the classic, "what's your dream job?" question, which is for some reason impossible for me to keep in my head. For a long time after college, my dream of becoming an engineer seemed so far away and impossible that I didn't dare think about anything beyond that. After that, I was so happy at my job I didn't think about anything beyond that. I'm still terribly happy about my job, but the whole idea of another degree has forced me to think about where I can go and what I can do to be valuable to the world.

I think I'm going to keep heading in the engineering/technical route and here's why. When I was 21 or so I read a book called "The Art of Innovation: Lessons in Creativity from Ideo, America's Leading Design Firm" Right then and there I decided I had to work for Ideo someday. It was incredible to read about this company... they're basically consultants, but their emphasis is on making life better and easier in revolutionary ways through brainstorming, design, and innovation. I'm not a human factors engineer, I've got that going against me. But I do want to be a part of a company that passionate. It's what I love about the aircraft industry and it's what I'd love even more, I think, if I could one day work at Ideo. So whether it happens or not, I'm making something like that my dream job. Creative electronics that make the world so outstandingly better they will change everyone's mind about what's possible. cool.

I need a master's degree in full-blown, real life electrical engineering. The engineering technology degree rocked, but there are places that won't see me as a "real" engineer until I've had a real engineering degree. I'm not promising anything here, I don't want everyone to do the "go spacefem!" thing only to see me chicken out and go for the MBA, but tonight this is what I'm feeling so I'm writing it down.
