more on the #noHersheyHalloween boycott

Earlier this week I wrote on spacefem.com about how Hershey is the only remaining big chocolate company who hasn't developed a policy to fight the forced labor, human trafficking, and abusive child labor plaguing the cocoa industry.

In the last decade as awareness grew about the issues, Nestle, Mars, Cadbury, and other major importers have all taken steps to ensure that at least part of their cocoa is produced under fairer labor standards. But not Hershey. More info is at raisethebarhershey.org.

This is a big deal. If you can afford fair trade to give out to trick-or-treaters this halloween, do it. Otherwise at least do M&Ms, or just no chocolate at all. I like Reese's as much as the next guy but it's a Hershey brand, and knowing that child slaves are involved in the production of it just makes it not as good to me.
