boredom: wouldn't you rather be alone?

Marc and I showed up early to church last Sunday. We let Josie wander into an empty room, and she was climbing around on the chairs while we just sat. At 9:32-ish Marc wanted to go get our seat for the 9:40 service, I told him I'd rather hang out where we were because they never get the service started on time, it's always boring just sitting there waiting to get it started.

He's like, "But all the people are in there."

I told him if I had to be bored, I'd much rather be bored in an empty room than one full of people.

He said that was weird! People-watching is at least some entertainment, and odds are you might strike up a conversation with someone, you never know.

So I posted online about it someplace, and nearly everyone agreed with me that if you're going to be bored, it's better to be bored alone than bored & surrounded by people. People make everything awkward, and complicated, and you can't just be.

Marc said this was an irrelevant, biased opinion because it's not fair to use internet people to gage the effects of social interaction. They're on the internet for a reason.

Psh. I say go internet. Finally introverts can unite and take over the world, on lj entry at a time, right?
