I'm going to delete my entire forum and start over.
Since I can't enter my forum (according to Dotster, domain names can take up to 72 hours to propogate. I guess that's where I am, huh?) I won't know how the members are going to react to this, so I'll see if they comment here to gauge how painful the reaction will be. Basically, right now we're running Ikonboard, a CGI board with dbm database. If we switch to PHP with MySQL, my understanding is that life will be incredibly, amazingly fast all the time, because I'm basically using the slowest combination possible now (it was the only thing available on the old host, sorry!)
So, I can have a slow board forever just for the sake of keeping what's gone on there in the past four months, or I can dump it all now and start over. From what I can tell, I could have converted the database over if it was in MySQL, but it's not, so I can't.
I mean, try out this forum, it's the one I've been surfing about on the last two days asking host questions, and it's so fast I almost weep with happiness.
