spacekid's christmas list

I got home from work last week, at the far off date of like September 15th or so, and the 5-year-old comes bounding down the stairs to say "I have my Christmas list ready!"

just in case we were worried she'd miss the deadline, you know. I thought about explaining to her that Christmas lists should really be saved for the 4th quarter, if there's too much padding in your dates your project won't be taken seriously by the individual contributors. but I shook off the workday and listened to her anyway.

here's what she's got and how she explained it all to me and it was kinda cute so I had to post about it:

from top right to bottom left:

Playdoh
Googley eyes
Two colors of glitter
Playdoh flower cake maker (not sure this is a thing but who knows she watches a lot of youtube and the ad satelites get into her head)
Easter egg dying kit
Snowcone maker
Glow sticks
Frosting bag to squeeze out frosting

Not pictured because she went to page 2:
Donut kit
Candy
Pink ballerina leotard
Flower seeds for butterfly flowers

I relayed this to a coworker with teenagers and he just shook his head and said "I wish my kid just asked for glitter", so I'll appreciate the age.

Beware the glitter! You know that stuff gets into everything, right?

I had a friend who discovered this when a bubble bath product contained a fair amount of it. They were fine, they rinsed themselves, but they left the tub for the next day... and had a curious and energetic cat. I was finding glitter from them at my place for months; for all I know, they still haven't gotten rid of it all.

oh god yes. we call it the herpes of craft supplies - if it's on you it will not come off, and you give it to anyone you touch. it's a mess. why do you think she doesn't have it now!

glitter glue is a little more manageable but she goes through it really fast, just loves squeezing it out in a big pile.

Do you get monarch butterflies in your area? If so then I reckon swan plant seeds would count as seeds for butterfly flowers. And that's a really cool idea. (otherwise just plant broccoli or something and you'll get cabbage butterflies).

ha getting some milkweed pods would be pretty sweet.

donuts: there are places that make donut pans you can just bake in the oven. I have some nordicware donut hole pans, but there are regular shaped ones too. healthier and easier than deep frying and taste just as good (IMO)

I'm with your co-worker! My three year old asked for a doctor kit, a ukulele and an airplane trip for her birthday. How do I get her back to wanting Play-do?
