never shopping at hobby lobby again

Someone on an etsy forum posted about being happy that a hobby lobby was finally opening in her town, and I tried not to do the snotty "ewe, I am too good to shop there" thing because I know how it is to live somewhere without all the options. but I still had to mention that I've quit shopping there. Like, officially, as of this year, never ever going in one again.

The politics of the place and the news about how the owners think emergency contraception is the same thing as getting an abortion was just the straw that broke the camel's back for me there. I already wasn't going that often, because they suck, it's just that the birth control news moved hobby lobby from my "avoid" list to my "just no, never" list.

I've just had too many run-ins with crappiness there. The worst was when I had a zipper whose price tag had fallen off (gasp!) and I told the checkout girl I thought it was $1.75... hey, it's a zipper. obviously not $20. she told me she had to know the actual price. She called for a price check. Because they have no floor staff to speak of, it wasn't happening. Five people in line behind me shifted uncomfortably, because the lines there suck. So I went back to the opposite corner of the store, grabbed a zipper with a price tag, and walked back up to the front where everyone was still shifting around and the clerk was just staring off into space. She didn't say thank you, just typed in the price and moved on... but seriously, any company that doesn't trust a checker to just make a call and type a reasonable price in to move things along is a SHITTY COMPANY.

I've also spent 45 minutes there doing a return because the lines were so long. I've been lost and unable to find a single person in a huge store to help me find what I was looking for. I get tired of listening to the elevator music version of "be thou my vision" or whatever, and I am a Christian who likes hymns even, but not theirs!

So I'm done shopping there forever.

I also refuse to shop at wal-mart, again partially because they're evil and partially because it's overcrowded, I can't find a good parking place, and the prices when I checked were actually higher than target's. And you all know about the recurring theme in my blog of the reasons to hate godaddy.com. but those are pretty much the only companies I refuse to do business with.

I admit that every large corporation probably has some evil in it, that's okay, I'm not going to randomly get one email forward and boycott a store forever. no, it takes years of bad experiences PLUS some bad politics and obvious evil for me to add a place to my never again list. and hobby lobby just recently made it.

My sister worked at Hobby Lobby and agrees it's an awful company.

Yeah Hobby Lobby and Walmart are on my list. Amazon was, because of some crappy stuff they've done to authors but I got sucked back in... prime lets me watch all the Mr Rogers with my kid.

It's kinda funny... I think they go back and forth, and it probably depends on what you're buying.

But I know for fact that wal-mart does that thing where they draw a ton of attention to a few big items with low prices, like you walk in and there's a gallon of pickles for $3 and you're like amazed and just get it in your head that they're so cheap... but everything else in the store just carries average prices. I mean if you came there to buy a gallon of pickles that day, great. But when you need ten things, odds are they're not all the "magic price point of the week" and you're not saving anything.

So yeah, I just like Target better. Plus their store brand stuff always seems a bit newer, like as soon as fiber bars are the cool in thing, they come out with store brand fiber bars for cheap, those sorts of trends are what I like about them.

I don't get why stores get so involved in politics! Seems counterproductive to me.

you know what, seriously! at my job I hardly ever talk about politics, except to pretend like I'm a total middle-of-the-roader (as if) because professionally, it' s just bad to piss off x% of the population because you can't keep your mouth shut. but CEOs are okay with it? that does say something about the company!

My parents can't fathom the fact that I don't shop at walmart anymore.

I'll accompany them to buy groceries there if I'm visiting, but I'll hate it.
