So apparently the Large Hadron Collider could possibly create a black hole that sucks us all in to our death. Luckily, there's a website you can check to see if this has happened yet:

http://www.hasthelhcdestroyedtheearth.com/

never ceases to amuse me.

other weird news... in my half-asleepness this morning, i couldn't help but tell myself that i had to wake up because i'd installed an .htaccess file that would cause my brain to ignore the alarm clock and i'd be late for work. wtf. i was really worried.

I guess someone from metafilter finally got around to making that domain. They were all too lazy to yesterday apparently!

I am so relieved that I'm not the only one who's thought I implanted a script in my brain while half asleep.

http://hasthelargehadroncolliderdestroyedtheworldyet.com/

also exists, but with less amusing source.

I also find it amusing that googling for "large hardon collider" will also give you a first hit of the wikipedia article for the LHC. :)

I saw that earlier and couldn't help but imagine a little old man with a beard with a sign about the world ending.

Sleepgeeking
I have totally had moments when I thought that in order to fall asleep properly (rather than being half awake), I first needed to become the correct Hamiltonian for a pair of coupled Schrodinger equations. Word. I'm so glad it's not just me who has sleepgeeking episodes.
