fighting the marriage amendment, still

I just want to say that I'm not an activist because I think our side will win this election. I'm also not doing it because I think I make a huge difference, or because it's good for me. It's not. I'm exhausted. I get home every night after working overtime and volunteering for two or three hours and collapse. I'm clarifying my reasons here and now.

I do it because it's the right thing to do.

I do it because I want to have an answer someday if Jesus Christ Himself comes and asks me, "What did you do to reach out to the people who the rest of society tried to reject?"

I do it because on April 6th, the day after this vote, I want to be able to look at myself in the mirror and say, "I did everything I could."

Good luck, even if it looks bleak...

That's very honorable, and I'm proud of you, and speaking as a gay man, I appreicate it.

shouldn't you be discouraging me? at the rate things are going, there will be a lot more gays moving to canada soon!

*laugh* Perhaps, but I only need the one I've got now. :)

But seriously, I'd rather see more people with open eyes and welcoming hearts the world over, not just here in Canada.

I may not believe what you fight for is right, but I do admire your convictions to your cause. :)

I move you remove this detractor from the page. Some people just don't know when their comments are not welcome. Congrats, Spacey. And thank you. You're a beacon of hope for a downtrodden people. You're like the gay man's Harriet Beecher Stowe.

Re: ugh
Personally, I disagree. Not everyone has the same views, but all the same his/her comment was a positive one. It would be very hypocritcal of us to espouse openness and acceptance on one hand and censor on the other, would it not?

Re: ugh
Same. I admire that person for saying that and for being openminded enough to find look positively on spacefem's work, which is admirable regardless of your position on this issue.

Thank you. I hope that if anybody tries to pass something like that over here, I will be as strong as you are.

Being passionate about anything & following through to its conclusion, good or bad, is hard. Fighting the tide of staunch opposition & seeing through the forest of shrugging indifference is hard. But when you know your cause is just, and your passion and conviction and soul is clean from a honest's day's work - it matters.

Thank you.

Well, I'm glad to see that you are so valiant and pure in your fight, but I still beleive that marriage is only meant to be between a man a woman.

Thanks Space, people like you make it easier for to keep faith in humanity.

Go you!

And without people like you, there'd be no one to educate more people in the area. And if it wasn't for people like you, politicians would be able to deny that even a small chunck of the population in their state is against the amendment.

I think you're doing an amazing job under very difficult circumstances and I respect you a lot for it.

*pats you on the back*

AND! Because of people like you, the majority will never be able to turn their backs completely on civil rights. There will always be someone to keep them in check.

i've been getting so frustrated lately; you'd think i'd learn by now that listening to the Jesus radio station when there's nothing else on

but i haven't. so throughout this whole ordeal i've become so incredibly incensed with everyone who dares claim to be working in the name of righteousness, morality, and yeah, Jesus too, that i completely forgot . . .

that you're awesome.

so thanks for reminding me that christianity isn't a dirty word, and . . .

and if you stop by barnes and noble anytime soon and i happen to be slaving away in the cafe, you should come say hi :-)
